Jay Goldberg, 35, is a South Jersey native and a seasoned barber entrepreneur whose life is a testament to resilience and reinvention. Growing up in the close-knit suburbs of Sicklerville and beyond, Jay has faced life’s challenges head-on, from overcoming addiction and personal setbacks to rebuilding after profound losses. His journey includes learning hard lessons through broken relationships, the passing of loved ones, and even breaking over 70 bones along the way due to the hardest card he was dealt—a rare, incurable bone disorder called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which has caused nearly 70 fractures since birth.
In 2016, Jay made a bold move in his career, leaving the security of a barbershop he had called home for nine years to launch his own independent venture. As a barber entrepreneur, he’s built more than a business—he’s cultivated a community and a legacy rooted in hard work, creativity, and connection. His tattoos, more than just art, serve as a visual diary of the battles he’s fought and the milestones he’s reached, symbolizing his unique identity as both an artist and a survivor. Through all the highs and lows, Jay’s story is one of perseverance, humility, and an unwavering belief that effort and mindset can shape even the most unpredictable outcomes.

"The Lives behind the Clippers"
Lou Bravo discovered his passion for barbering at just 13 years old, drawn to the craft by a love for artistry and precision. His parents instilled in him values like discipline and ambition, which became the foundation of his career. By 19, Lou was a licensed cosmetologist in Pennsylvania and began working in various shops. However, his early career was marked by a significant challenge: a lawsuit over a non-compete contract he had unknowingly signed. The experience was a harsh lesson, but it fueled his determination and taught him the importance of transparency and perseverance.
At 25, Lou opened his first shop, a milestone that symbolized both his ambition and his willingness to take risks. While he initially found success, life dealt him heartbreaking setbacks, including the loss of his father and a child. These personal tragedies overwhelmed him, and Lou turned to alcohol and substances as a means of coping. Eventually, he closed his shop and sought help, entering rehab at 31 to confront his pain and begin the process of rebuilding his life. Supported by his wife and family, Lou embraced self-improvement, focusing on fitness, reading, and learning about leadership and financial literacy.
In 2021, Lou opened a new barbershop, marking the start of a new chapter in his career. What began as a solo venture has since flourished into a thriving business with a team of four professionals who share his philosophy of “co-elevation”—growing and succeeding together. For Lou, barbering is more than a trade; it’s a platform to inspire and give back. Having overcome immense challenges, he now lives with gratitude and purpose, dedicated to being the best version of himself for his family, his clients, and his community.

"The Lives behind the Clippers"
Derek Huynh’s journey as a barber was never just about cutting hair—it was about survival, sacrifice, and defying expectations. Growing up in Woodlynne, NJ, in a home that once held 13 family members, stability was fleeting. Family members drifted in and out of his life. Through the chaos, Derek clung to what he knew: hustle. Barbering started as a way to save money, then became a side gig, and eventually, a calling.
Despite pressure to follow a traditional career path, Derek balanced college, barbering, and even an accelerated master’s program—grinding from 5 AM to late at night to prove he could carve his own path. His parents, immigrants from Vietnam, urged him to pursue a career of the mind, not the hands, but Derek saw something deeper in his craft: connection, purpose, and independence.
By year five, the choice was clear—he wouldn’t spend 30 years building someone else’s dream. He would invest in his own. Through struggle, doubt, and long hours, Derek forged a future on his terms.

Jurgens “Jay” Solorzano, a Lakewood, New Jersey native, discovered his passion for barbering at just 13. What began as a hobby quickly became his creative outlet, a skill he sharpened between haircuts when his family couldn’t always afford them. Growing up in a hardworking Hispanic household, he was influenced by his father’s entrepreneurial spirit and his mother’s resilience. Though he explored careers in HR, payroll, and insurance, barbering always called him back. A visit to Ecuador confirmed it was in his blood—his Aunt Cera ran a salon from her home, reigniting a passion he couldn’t ignore.
In 2014, Jay’s life took an unexpected turn when he was laid off shortly after the birth of his daughter Gabriella. With no clear path forward, he saw a commercial for Robert Fiance Beauty Academy and took a leap of faith. He graduated in 2016, determined to establish himself within five years. By 2019, he had built a reputation as a skilled barber in Asbury, NJ. Then, in 2020, the pandemic shut down businesses, forcing him to take his biggest risk yet. He transformed his garage into a barbershop, turning adversity into opportunity. With the support of close friends and loyal clients, Nicole and Bobby Miller, Faded Crown Barbershop was born, a dream realized in the face of uncertainty.
